Mom Selfie
My first and only selfie. I’m a bit camera shy.

Greetings!  My name is Laura Lee Bayne, and I’m enrolled at the University of La Verne’s teaching credential and Masters in Education programs.  I am training to be a high school English teacher and want to research ways to incorporate more writing into the curriculum.  I steadfastly believe that good writing is a skill that develops over time rather than an innate talent. I also know that writing instruction is labor intensive and would like to figure out how to get students writing without overburdening their teachers. This is a topic I’ve been interested in for a few years , and I’m very excited to start doing to practical work on the issue. I have some strong opinions about writing instruction, so please bear with me if I sometimes get on my soap-box and rant lecture on the topic. Feel free to check out my Pinterest  page where I’ve collected some Useful Writing Advice.

I chose the University of La Verne for my Masters and credential because it has a very good reputation in the field, the scope of the program gives me some academic flexibility to pursue my interests and my interactions with staff and faculty have been overwhelmingly positive. These are in my opinion key ingredients to a successful program. I’m looking forward being challenged and growing as a professional.

I’m a mother of two girls, Abigail (15) and Lois (11), who amaze me daily with their wit, wisdom and wonder. We have two cats, Andie and Godiva, who amuse and entertain us with their antics and the voices we’ve given them. My husband chose teaching as his second career and has inspired me to go back to school.

Thank you for coming to my blog!  I hope you’ll find it interesting and useful.

  1. Hi, Laura! Do I call you Laura or Laura Lee? It’s important to me to get names right. 🙂

I am very appreciative of your passion for writing. It’s a passion I share, and I wish more people did. Feel free to step up on to your soapbox anytime! Lois and Abigail look like lots of fun! Thanks for sharing a bit about yourself. I’m looking forward to reading more of your writing as the class continues. Welcome to 407!
